Fluoroscopic X-Ray Registration
Fluoroscopic X-ray registration provides surgeons with navigational landmarks to help them guide surgical tools during spinal neurosurgery. Preoperative images, such as MRI and CT, are first correlated and then matched to intraoperative X-ray images in order to maintain the registration of the dynamic and deformable intraoperative tissues with the static preoperative images. This groundbreaking research documents major advances in registering and tracking spinal images using only intraoperative fluoroscopy. By using in situ registration, this procedure overcomes many limitations of current systems and has the potential to make spine surgery much less invasive.
